Description

The idea behind my artwork is a little deeper than some are willing to look. My work is ultimately a critique on the way that we, as a culture and society, interact with our planet. my work is make from littered cans, thus driving my meaning home. Though some might call my work "pretty", it really tricks massive culture. my work is a criticism of our actions. if we continue to behave this way, this might be all we have left.

this one is made from found coke and mountain dew cans. the soda can rose is fastened in the bottom of the coke can - showing the beauty that can "grow" from taking actions such as recycling. the destroyed can that the flower is growing from helps me embody the "trash to treasure" idea that im going for. hope you guys like it!

I am submitting this to [link] <-- this contest for Unframed Nature's "The Love of Nature" contest because I really feel like my work embraces that love and passion for nature, and how we need to show responsibility and take care of our beautiful planet.

I absolutely love this piece! First of all, any person who can make recycling look this gorgeous deserves a high five in my book. So... <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="45" height="20" alt=":highfive:" title="High-five!"/>

Okay, now that we've got the high fiving out of the way, I'd actually like to address the "ripped" can that acts as the vase. I totally understand what you meant by it and I absolutely agree with it looking sort of tattered and ugly, but part of me still wants to see a pretty tin-can vase. Again, I totally understand/love the concept, but it's just a personal preference that I'd like to see a pretty vase.

Also, I'm interested to know why you chose to have the silver side of the can facing up instead of the red? I love how uniform it looks, but I'm curious to know what it'd look like if the petals were red instead.

So, all in all, this is one hell of a piece. The piece's purpose is clear and it drives it's point home in an original way that's very easy on the eyes. Great job!
